Part-Time Intern in Patina, Patina & Preservation; Fabrication/Installation; or Collection Management

Cultivate a spirit of exploration, while intertwining and growing your own experience and ingenuity. The Johnson Atelier will be accepting applications for student interns on an ongoing basis. The internship is a 10-week to 20-week program providing undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to support public art. Currently enrolled or recently graduated undergraduate and graduate students are welcome to apply. Candidates with a demonstrated interest in the fields of fine art, sculpture, design, history, anthropology, museum studies, library science, curatorial, and public policy are preferred. GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to work independently, highly reliable and conscientious about responsibilities
  • Communicate effectively with all staff and the public with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work at least 20 hours a week.
  • Must be detail oriented, safely operate machinery, able to work from height, wear PPE as needed with ability to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch or crawl; and talk and hear. 
  • Ability to bend, lift, push, pull and move moderately heavy objects consistently
  • Proficient computer skills, including Excel and database programs.

Part-Time Digital Intern

Johnson Atelier Digital produces fine art and bespoke objects using computer modeling, CNC machining, and the experience and expertise of working artists. We are designers, engineers, fabricators, innovators, pioneers, problem solvers, and project managers. As an intern, you will have a hand in creating tangible objects that can be seen in the real world. Our work currently lives globally in multiple formats: large scale public art, gallery shows, art and design fairs, sculpture gardens, museums, and facade & architectural restorations. You will learn from and collaborate with our team through the entire process of making. This may include; initial client meetings, project development & planning, logistics, 3D CAD modeling, 3D scanning, CNC programming, 5 axis milling, fabrication, carpentry, welding, assembly, sanding, finishing and shipping the final bespoke object.   • High school graduate or GED required.  Safety conscious – must follow instructions, wear respirators/PPE as needed, and complete safety training for each type of equipment. 
  • Bonus qualifications (helpful to have any of these, but not required):  Prior experience in the arts, especially sculpture  CNC programming experience using CAD/CAM software.  Hands on fabrication or building experience.  Social media / marketing experience
